4. Is Punicalagin Effective? How Does It Work?
Punicalagin, as a "versatile" skincare active ingredient,
has been extensively validated for its skincare efficacy through in vitro and in vivo experiments.
Excellent antioxidant capacity
Punicalagin demonstrated strong DPPH radical scavenging ability, with a half effective concentration (EC50) as low as 98.82 ± 0.25 μ g/mL.[2] This value indicates that at extremely low concentrations, it can effectively neutralize over 50% of free radicals, and its activity far exceeds many common antioxidants.
Anti-inflammatory and soothing
Punicalagin can significantly inhibit the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 subunit in a cell inflammation model induced by LPS, thereby downregulating the gene expression and protein secretion levels of downstream pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α).[4]
